A sketchbook or visual journal can be an excellent tool for artists to discover new processes and work through ideas. This fun, open-ended class is geared towards creatives who are looking for a bit of motivation, a new direction in their work, and to (re)discover a regular art practice through prompts and feedback. Each week, this class will introduce a variety of hands-on, inspiring, experimental techniques (focusing on materials you probably have on hand) including simple DIY printmaking, drawing/sketching, simple digital photography, collage and writing. Part journal and part work of art, your sketchbook will become a place to generate, edit and implement ideas. This class will help to hone your creative practice through experimentation, reflection and play, while fostering collaboration, conversation and community. Materials: Suggested Materials: A sketchbook that is at least 8 x 10, with blank (not lined pages) Some basic tools such as drawing utensils (pens, pencils, colored pencils or markers), eraser, scissors, glue Optional Materials: A variety of special art making materials of your choice (such as either watercolors, gouache, x-acto blades, acrylic paint, ink, brushes, rulers, collage materials, needle and thread, printmaking brayer, carving tool, easy carve lino, block printing ink etc)* You can focus on materials that you already have, know and love, or choose this as a time to experiment with something new that interests you. Please reach out if you have any questions or would like advice!
