Lauri Twitchell is a book artist, a graduate of UC Berkeley’s Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning Master’s Program, and the former manager of Blake Garden. Over 25 of her works are on display in this unique exhibit. Objects and events -- like finding rocks on the beach, birdsong in the woods, or sticks on the trail -- all carry metaphorical significance. Language is full of landscape references and metaphors that describe everyday encounters and experiences. My responses to these metaphors have been mostly expressed in book form which allows me to say things in multiples and in sequence, and to create several points of view simultaneously. The book form allows for a sensual, tactile experience that can spur memories and feelings that are sometime hard to express in words.
