Auditions for 'The After Party'

Tue Jan 25, 2022 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Online via Zoom
The Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies invites UC Berkeley students to audition for the Spring 2022 production of "The After Party," directed by Erika Chong Shuch and created in collaboration with the performers. Details and sign-up forms are available on the TDPS Callboard. Synopsis: As we emerge from the isolation of COVID-19, "The After Party" is an invitation to celebrate our togetherness. A social event that flirts with performance (or a performance that flirts with a social event?). Guests should be ready to throw their hands up in joy and despair! Content Advisory: Audiences will be invited to engage with the performers (for example, through games or songs) while following all COVID-19 protocols. Some scenes will depict emotional or mental distress. Casting: We are looking for a cast of 10 performers of any gender identity. Students who sing, dance, tell jokes and play a musical instrument are encouraged to audition. We are looking for performers who are interested in building performances that are highly interactive with audiences. Commitment: Students cast in the show are committing to be available for all indicated calls on the Production Calendar and must enroll in Theater 181. See the production calendar on the TDPS Callboard. Rehearsals and performances for this production will be held in person. Audition Details: Auditions will be held online via Zoom on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 from 6pm–10pm PT. Please prepare and perform a 30 second welcome speech. How would you welcome a group of people into a new space? Let your imagination go wild! Please also prepare no more than 30 seconds of song to be performed a cappella. Callbacks will be held online via Zoom on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 6pm–10pm PT. Sign-up to audition on the TDPS Callboard. COVID-19 Masking Advisory: TDPS is planning for performances without face coverings during the Spring semester. We are open to a dialogue with any student actor who would prefer to be masked. Please email Jamila Cobham, Production Manager, if you have any concerns: jamilacobham@berkeley.edu Accessibility Note: If a disability-related accommodation is needed for an audition, please contact the Undergraduate Academic Advisor at least one week prior to the start of the semester: tdpsugadvisor@berkeley.edu For students in DSP, please contact your DSP specialist well in advance of the audition so there is time for the accommodation process, and notify the department to make arrangements. Please ask DSP to also send disability accommodation notices for auditions to the Undergraduate Academic Advisor at least one week prior to the start of the semester. Please note that some audition spaces are not readily accessible for those with mobility impairments. With advance notice, we are happy to make arrangements for an alternate venue.
