Polygonal Fireplace, 2018.
The project explores concrete as a fire-resistant and versatile material. Concrete has no inherent form of its own, therefore, allows for forming a void easily. Our design adopts two approaches to create holes on concrete slab. The hole in the middle serves as a place for bonfire, and the other on the concrete slab performs as a gill to place the food. We use wood panels to create its formwork. Vertical wood panels are fastened to a heavy base by screws, and concrete is poured in gaps between two sides of panels. The ratio of water and cement is carefully designed to create a brutal texture for the fireplace.
