Sinuosity, 2019.
A traditional reception desk's long and narrow form creates a barrier between the receptionists and the guests. This group project aims to make the reception experience more personal and welcoming for the user. We brought the desk down to an individual scale and shrank the distance between the receptionist and the guest and soften the profile. The organic shape is meant to foster a welcoming experience and the inner circle cut into the table is meant to draw people in, encouraging more human interaction. With structural properties in mind, we spaced out the two central spines to allow more connection points with each cantilever. Lots of half-lap joints were made in series to strengthen the tabletop structurally.
