Repurposing University House, 2020.
Currently, UC Berkeley’s webpage advertises the University House as a location where over 80 events happen each year ranging from small lunches to garden receptions. Given this building was built using university funds, we believe that the University House should be repurposed so that it can be used for and by the broader UC Berkeley community. As home to the Free Speech Movement (FSM), our campus is committed to giving students and community members access to free speech and expression. Our proposal suggests repurposing the University House to be a location that represents a safe space for community members and hosts more campus events to reiterate UC Berkeley’s emphasis on inclusivity.
