Goalfish
Goalfish, 2016. Video, 2:37 minutes
Team Goalfish attacked the difficult challenge of unequal access to higher education, and thus to the opportunities it brings. Broadly, our team aimed to lessen the gap by encouraging or enabling lower income and/or discouraged students to pursue higher education. Our research into the problem identified deep-seated concerns on the part of high school students that they had already in some way “messed up” their chances for getting to college. The end product of our project was a set of videos in which UC Berkeley students described how they had “gone wrong” in high school, and what they did to overcome their past mistakes to gain admission into UC Berkeley. The powerfully emotional video has been picked up by community colleges in California to show students what their possibilities are.
