Dante, 2019.
After reading Dante’s Divine Comedy, Lily thought about how the vivid descriptions and numerous scenes unfold like a mystery graphic novel. For her project, she decided to run with that. Due to time constraints, she chose to focus on a few key moments from each realm and illustrate those scenes. Originally, she had intended on creating the entire project through digital drawings on my iPad. But after trying different techniques, she realized that she wanted to try something new and combine acrylic painting with digital editing. After choosing a scene and painting it, she photographed the piece and played with the shadows and lighting on her iPad. Then she combined her scenes into pages, where she added text. For this submission she has chosen the image of the title page, but the printed version is a stapled booklet containing 6 pages of scenes.
