Wed Apr 22, 2020 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
Zoom Livestream
Explore the world of creative placemaking and creative placekeeping in the making of cities, plus learn about the Oakland Cultural Plan, with Roberto Bedoya, Cultural Affairs Manager for the City of Oakland. Bedoya most recently shepherded "Belonging in Oakland: A Cultural Development Plan," which brought to life a new vision of cultural equity in the City. Throughout his career, he has consistently supported artists-centered cultural practices and advocated for expanded definitions of inclusion and belonging in the cultural sector. His essays “Creative Placemaking and the Politics of Belonging and Dis-Belonging”; “Spatial Justice: Rasquachification, Race and the City” and “Poetics and Praxis of a City in Relation" have reframed the discussion on cultural policy by shedding light on exclusionary practices in cultural policy decision making. He is a Creative Placemaking Fellow at Arizona State University. This event is hosted by OLLI @Berkeley as part of its ongoing speaker series which shines a light on some of the most important issues of our time.
