Hands-On at the Hearst

Sat Jul 15, 2017 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Hearst Museum of Anthropology
In this short workshop students will learn about the alternative photo/print process of cyanotype (sunprinting) including its rich history and its traditional and experimental uses. Cyanotype is a very simple process but has an infinite number of options to play with. After achieving an understanding of the process, students will create a series of work based on a personal collection of objects whose makers are known and unknown, inspired by the current exhibition at the Pheobe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology. Please come prepared with a personal collection of objects and ideas that inspire you. Students will leave the class with a series of photogram prints that will allow them to share and see their collection in a new way. This class will take place indoors and out. No experience is necessary. Emily Gui is an experimental printmaker and mixed-media artist who has been in the Bay Area since 2015. She works primarily in silkscreen, cyanotype and drawing. Her work often pushes the boundaries of traditional printmaking techniques, layering and combining materials and processes. She teaches at Kala Art Institute, City College of SF and UC Berkeley Art Studio.
