Art in the 21st century

Art21 Season 9 Screening and Conversation with Stephanie Syjuco and Lynn Hershman Leeson

Mon Nov 26, 2018 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Free and open to the public. No ticket required. Doors open at 6pm and lecture starts at 6:30pm.

Join Berkeley Arts + Design and the Department of Art Practice as we celebrate Art21 Season 9, featuring UC Berkeley Art Practice Professor Stephanie Syjuco and Alum Lynn Hershman Leeson. Now in its ninth season, "Art in the Twenty-First Century" is the longest-running contemporary art series anywhere, presenting unprecedented access to the greatest creative minds of our time. We will welcome two of Season 9's twelve innovators in visual art through three geographic foci -- in Berlin, Johannesburg, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

The evening's program will consist of a screening of Season 9 highlights, followed by a conversation with Stephanie Syjuco and Lynn Hershman Leeson. On this festive evening, we will focus especially on how Berkeley and the Bay Area have has shaped Syjuco's and Leeson's teaching and practice.

Presented by the Department of Art Practice, Art21 and Berkeley Arts + Design.

Arts + Design Mondays is organized and sponsored by UC Berkeley’s Arts + Design Initiative. The series is co-curated by the Art, Technology, and Culture Colloquium at the Berkeley Center for New Media; College of Environmental Design; Department of Art Practice; Graduate School of Journalism; Townsend Center for the Humanities, and in collaboration with the Headlands Center for the Arts; Fort Mason Center/ COAL + ICE; Art21; and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

The 2018-19 series of Arts + Design Mondays is made possible thanks a generous donation from Jacqueline Jackson and other supporters of Berkeley Arts + Design.
