untitled
untitled, 2017. Performance piece.
Through untitled, I intended to tackle the issue of isolation in a room full of like-minded people. Anyone who knows me can attest to my love of going to arts and culture shows alone, as I feel that everyone in the room is a potential new friend who can shape and inspire my future. After all, everyone there has at least one thing in common – the fact that they are all together for the same event. Sadly, this optimism is sometimes overly ambitious, as many people would rather spend time with their current friends instead of taking a leap into the unfamiliar. Through this installation, I intend to strip that mindset by encouraging friend groups to split apart and mingle with those they do not know. As new groups are formed, the audio/visuals also grows, generatively feeding off the love of strangers. If the normal bonds of social interaction stand, however, the music and visuals will become stale and eerie, directing the room to try a new configuration.
