All in the Timing: An Evening of Short Comedies by David Ives, 2018.
All in the Timing is a compilation of playwright David Ives’ four wittiest one-act works. The fantastic four chosen included Sure Thing, Time Flies, English Made Simple and Universal Language. Sure Thing explores the possibilities of conversation as couple Bill and Betty try (and fail) to connect with each other; however, when one of the punchy pair gives an undesirable response, their conversation is reset with the ringing of a bell. In Time Flies, the audience flutters into the lives of two mayflies, May and Horace, on a first date as they discover they do not have as much time to chat and drink “swamp water” as they once thought. In English Made Simple, The Narrator, who is a sharp as a tack, guides party-goers Jack and Jill through the intricacies of grammar. Finally, learn “Unamunda” in Universal Language, as Don attempts to swindle a shy young woman afflicted with a speech impediment, promising her a life without pause.
