Wed Mar 04, 2020 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Dwinelle Hall
TDPS and the New Play Reading Series present Sombras, Nada Mas, envisioned and written by Megan Xotchilt Espinoza. Bienvenida is undergoing the transition between a life where she suffered from dementia and a death where she is able to remember everything. We journey through her granddaughter, Soledad's, and her relationship in time to understand when the forgetting began. As a grandmother-becoming-ancestor, she confronts what she was taught to never speak on: the truth. About the Series: The New Play Reading Series is a directed group study course led by current Performance Studies graduate students. Students in the course form a repertory theater company dedicated to the reading of three new plays by up-and-coming playwrights. Attendance is free and open to the public. About the Playwright: "My name is Megan Xotchilt, y soy de South Central y South Gate L.A. Daughter of a badass mother, and sister to two hilarious siblings. I'm a writer, xillona, and visual artist who creates from a place of memory, mourning, and the unspoken. When I'm not writing, I'm probably running, snoring, drawing, or munchin’ on plantain chips. This being my fifth and final year, I will be graduating with a B.A. in Ethnic Studies, a minor in Xicana Studies, and a passion for la palabra. Here's to storytelling the stories we've been too afraid to tell!" Directions to B4 Dwinelle Hall: Room B4 is located on Level B of Dwinelle Hall in the Berkeley Language Center corridor. The room is accessible via the ground-level entrance on the southwest corner of Dwinelle Hall, adjacent to Dwinelle Annex and the circle driveway.
