Online via Zoom
UC Berkeley students of any major are invited to audition for a Spring 2021 audio play production of Euripides' The Trojan Women, directed by Torange Yeghiazarian. For more information, please visit the TDPS Callboard. Synopsis: When one empire falls and another rises, who is caught in between? And how do the decisions made a century ago continue to reverberate through today’s global political dynamics? This geopolitical reframing of Euripides' timeless tragedy parallels the aftermath of the Trojan War—and its devastating effects on women—with the rise of the US as an empire in the 20th century. Casting: We are looking for a diverse group of 12 actors who are interested in making the classics contemporary by bringing their personal narratives to the performance. The format of the production will be an audio play offering the opportunity to discover the power of your voice, singing, noise-making, and speaking as an ensemble. This is a great experience for anyone interested in pursuing voiceovers or working as a foley artist. In addition, as digital content production is increasingly becoming the norm for the performing arts, audio plays are gaining new ground and popularity. Students with diverse backgrounds, immigrants, multilingual students, and students who like to sing or play a musical instrument are encouraged to audition. Commitments: Students cast in the show are committing to be available for all indicated calls on the Production Calendar, and must enroll in Theater 181. Open Call Auditions: Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from 6–9pm PST, via Zoom. Audition sign-up forms will be posted on the TDPS Callboard two weeks before auditions. Audition Requirements: Please be prepared to perform a 2-minute classical monologue of your choosing, as well as a song. Callbacks: Wednesday, February 3, 2021 from 6–9pm PST, via Zoom Additional Details: All rehearsals for this production will be held synchronously and via Zoom. TDPS will provide all actors with the required supplemental equipment for the production.
