With more than 20 exhibitions a year, films 5 nights a week, performances, poetry readings, book signings, lectures, workshops and more, BAMPFA is a favorite hang-out for UC Berkeley students! See whet they have planned this fall on their website.  BAMPFA is the visual arts center of the University of California, Berkeley, the nation’s leading public research university. Through training in the fine and industrial arts, The Crucible promotes creative expression, reuse of materials, and innovative design, while serving as an accessible arts venue for the general public in the Bay Area. Known for one-of-a-kind industrial arts education programs, The Crucible is also highly regarded for its innovative performances. 

What to do:

di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art occupies 217 acres of the original 465 acres of land purchased by Rene di Rosa in 1960 and is the vision of two devoted patrons of the arts, Rene and Veronica di Rosa. Through their generosity, the art collection, galleries, and surrounding open space were gifted to the public for the enjoyment of future generations.

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary art in the United States, containing work from world-renowned artists including Frida Kahlo, Gerhard Richter, Andy Warhol, and Julie Mehretu. Founded in 1901, the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology is dedicated to the study of cultures from yesterday and today, both near and far. Today, the Museum contains an estimated 3.8 million objects from California and around the world, as well as extensive documents, photographs and film recordings.

UC Botanical Garden, 200 Centennial Dr, Berkeley, CA

The 34-acre UC Botanical Garden is one of the most diverse landscapes in the world, with over 10,000 types of plants including many rare and endangered species.  Organized geographically, the Garden features 9 regions of naturalistic plantings from Italy to South Africa, along with a major collection of California native plants.  The Garden was established in 1890 and its living collections are invaluable resources for international research and conservation.

The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life, 2121 Allston Way, Berkeley, CA

The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life was established in 2010 following the transfer of the Judah L. Magnes Museum to the University of California, Berkeley. Its remarkably diverse archive, library and museum holdings include art, objects, texts, music, and historical documents about the Jews in the Global Diaspora and the American West. As one of the world's preeminent Jewish collections in a university setting, it provides highly innovative and accessible resources to both researchers and the general public.

Department of Music Afternoon Concerts, Hertz Hall, UC Berkeley, CA

Featuring the Music Department’s varied and diverse performance activities, the Department of Music presents a series of free weekly concerts each semester in Hertz Hall. Inaugurated in 1953, these concerts are very popular and well attended by those on campus and in the wider community. Traditionally on Wednesdays, each concert begins promptly at 12:15 and ends by 1pm.
