Everything possesses a living soul: an environment, an action, a phrase, a moment. It is with this belief that these poems were crafted. Each aims to seduce the life force, through the vessels of language, rhythm, and syntax. I want to feather in echoes from creation’s first moments, when word was world, to coax a material strength from each line, make images tangible, and radiate feeling through tone, while simultaneously drawing out a unifying heart’s beat by interweaving shades of loss and love.

Brian Anthony Reyes Villa is a California based poet, born and raised in the heart of Wine Country. He is the son of Mexican immigrants, and the first in his family to attend a post-secondary institution. Growing up, he was brought up in a low-income household, cared for by a single mother. At a young age, he became intimately aware of class struggles, bearing witness to the division between those who picked grapes and those who owned vineyards. His poems often explore themes of loss and love and the inherent connection that exists between these two subjects.
