Nuclear Powered Art, 2021.
Given the context of the recent decision on dumping the Fukushima nuclear wastewater into the Pacific ocean, I made this curatorial project with the theme of nuclear power. I believe that the discussion about nuclear power should be two-sided. We need to acknowledge not only its potential danger but also its benefits. I've included a variety of artists from different geographic communities and a variety of artworks ranging from the 20th century till today. I want to broaden the horizons of the audience by introducing different viewpoints from the artists. In particular, I’ve included Japanese artists’ works on the nuclear bomb and the Fukushima event. Japan is a country that has been deeply damaged by nuclear power. Knowing its potential danger, Japan persists in its development of nuclear power plants. This contrast is a perfect example for the theme of this curatorial project.
