The Bay's Team, 2019. Documentary film, 17:19 minutes.
In the mid 00’s, an influx of urban youth athletes transformed the world's number one public university into a major college football contender. Local stars such as Marshawn Lynch brought the “Hyphy” Bay Area culture inside the walls of both Sather gate and California Memorial Stadium. Along with winning games, these teams helped to expose an extreme divide on campus between the athletic department and the academic community. This film tells the story of football, social class, the nationwide battle for resources on college campuses, and the journey of these young Black men at a school where they represent below three percent of the population.
