The ALiEN, The Art Monster, and The Haram One, 2019.
"These characters each represent a melodramatic exaggeration of different aspects of my identity. Through conceiving them I aim to dimensionalize my narrative as a form of reclamation, while subsequently demystifying the oversimplification of the minority narrative trope that’s often romanticized to fit the mold of 'feel good diversity'."

Alen is an art practice major. At the intersection of multiple identities as a queer trans muslim of color, Alen's work embraces the internal and external forces that can create, transform and undo identity. Like Theresa Cha, Alen works in a wide range of media including video, performance, and digital images. In many of their works, quotidian materials such as hair, make-up, burqas and flowers unfold into rich references to continual transformation.
