Lifting the Spirit, 2021.
Our work attempts to immerse our audience into an alternative spirit space where they are invited to question their reality and what they think is fixed. We would like for the masks and alebrije transformations to help free people from the binaries and empower them with spirit guide wisdom. We would like to show that change is possible by taking a moment to go within and heal ourselves first. We would like this work to help people who don’t see themselves as spiritual, reevaluate what their connection to what the spiritual even means. Is it really what they were taught to believe, or are there other forms of spirituality? Are there other forms of spiritual guides? We would like our work to expand our audiences' imaginations and creativity. Inspire them to ask questions about their own inner world and their ancestors. A big part of our work installation is trying to figure out what was left from our ancestors' knowledge so that we can heal ourselves and the earth. There are a lot of missing pieces, but we use our creativity and intuition to find a way. Highlighting what we are leaving behind for the next seven generations.
