Internationally renowned curators explore the relation between performance and the development of video art, considering issues of embodiment, time, documentation, action, and more.

Adrienne Edwards is Engell Speyer Family Curator and Curator of Performance at the Whitney Museum. She is co-curator of the 2022 Whitney Biennial with David Breslin. Edwards curated Jason Moran, the artist’s first museum show, which originated at the Walker in 2018, and traveled nationally. She organized the event and video commencing the construction of David Hammons’s Day’s End, and Moved by the Motion: Sudden Rise with WuTsang, boychild, and Fred Moten. She is curating Dave McKenzie’s first solo museum project in New York City and My Barbarian’s twenty-year survey, both to be presented in 2021.

While at the Walker, Edwards co-led the Mellon Foundation Interdisciplinary Initiative, commissioning, contextualizing, and collecting cross-disciplinary works. For Performa, she realized boundary-defying commissions, as well as pathfinding conferences and film programs with over forty international artists. Edwards’s curatorial projects include the critically acclaimed 2016 exhibition and catalogue Blackness in Abstraction, as well as Frieze’s 2018 Artist Award and the Live program ASSEMBLY in New York. Edwards is Visiting Critic at the University of Pennsylvania, and taught art history at New York University and The New School. She contributes to numerous artist monographs, exhibition catalogues, and academic journals.

Catherine Wood is curator of Contemporary Art / Performance at Tate Modern. She curated the exhibitions The World as a Stage at Tate Modern in 2007, Pop Life in 2010 and A Bigger Splash: Painting after Performance in 2012, as well as co-directing the opening programme for the Tanks, Art in Action. Wood is author of Yvonne Rainer: The Mind is a Muscle (2007, Afterall/MIT press).  Performances programmed at Tate include works by Mark Leckey, Joan Jonas, Guy de Cointet, Jiri Kovanda and Sturtevant and many others. A regular contributor to Afterall, Artforum, Mousse and Frieze magazines, she has also written numerous catalogue essays, most recently on Joachim Koester and Pablo Bronstein, as well as contributing to the upcoming book and symposium 'Choreographing Exhibitions' by Mathieu Copeland (La Ferme du Buisson, Paris). She is on the board for the non-profit space Studio Voltaire in London and was on the juries for the Ernst Schering Foundation Art Award, the Pinchuk Prize and the Annual Film and Video Umbrella award in 2013. She curated an exhibition of Yvonne Rainer's early dance work for Raven Row in 2014.
