Morphosis: Planter Box, 2018.
This project required us to work with others to design and construct a planter box. The objective was to introduce us to wood and how joints work together. We were graded based on our design and how well we constructed our planter box according to materials, simplicity, and craft. Our design resulted from various study models. Our final design was organic in the way that we decided to design this model along the way instead of being confined to a digital model. We built a grid of ½” x ½” long members and decided to have the box morph into something else as if the design was breaking out of the box. Using Douglas fir, we created a grid that mimics pixelation and morphs into pieces of varying lengths. Dowels and glue were used as our joint connections.
