Curating Worth Ryder, Past and Present with Farley Gwazda

Farley Gwazda, Director, Worth Ryder Art Gallery

 

Farley Gwazda, Director of the Worth Ryder Art Gallery at the Department of Art Practice on campus, will be speaking about the 57-year history of the gallery and its current mission. Gwazda will be discussing the many hats he wears as a practicing artist, as the co-founder of a nonprofit “house gallery” in Berkeley, and his work with the estate of artist and UC Berkeley alumna Sonya Rapoport. He will be addressing the process of putting together Authority - The 2017 Open Call Student Exhibition, opening later that evening, and discussing a selection of student artworks.


Biography

Farley Gwazda is Director of the Worth Ryder Art Gallery at the University of California, Berkeley. His work has been shown at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archives, Santa Clara University Art Gallery, playSPACE, and Flux Factory, among others. He was awarded the Eisner Prize in Studio Art from the University of California, Berkeley. He has also taught courses and given guest lectures at UC Berkeley, in addition to working as a freelance video editor, art consultant, studio manager, and art fabricator. He is also Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Martina }{ Johnston Gallery, an artist-run house gallery in the Bay Area.
