Contemplating Loss: Photography Workshop

Mon Sep 17, 2018 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
UC Botanical Garden
Where better to bring our grief than the garden? In this contemplative photography workshop, we will observe Nature’s teachings on letting go, and we will use the camera as a trusted guide who can navigate us safely through the rugged terrain of grief. Any and all equipment are invited, including DSLRs, mobile phones, point-and-shoot, polaroid, and pinhole cameras. We will emphasize the process of art making and the cultivation of awe over technical considerations. Open to beginning and experienced students. _______ A photographer, naturalist, and educator living in Oakland, California, Becky Jaffe teaches Art of Seeing courses for advanced fine art photographers. Using in-camera techniques that stretch the photographic medium to create painterly effects, she fuses an artist’s sensibility with a biologist’s curiosity in order to communicate reverence for the natural world. Becky has been a UCBG docent for the past 10 years. ** This workshop is part three in a four-part monthly series. The full series includes: Contemplating Connection: Photography Workshop on July 9 Contemplating Gratitude: Photography Workshop on August 6 Contemplating Loss: Photography Workshop on September 17 Contemplating Desire: Photography Workshop on October 15
