Woodblock Printing Workshop

Sun Jul 22, 2018 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
UC Botanical Garden
We will begin this workshop in the Garden looking closely at plant forms and shape to create a graphic image inspired by our collections. Erin will walk you through the process of translating your design to a woodblock or linoleum block for carving. Each student will get a small wood block, linoleum block, and a 3 piece carving set to use and keep. After we carve designs, we’ll set up inking stations and pull several prints of your design. Printing ink and paper will be provided for use in class. Please bring a lunch and a sketchbook or drawing paper and a few pencils (at least one that is a 4B or darker pencil). --------- Erin McCluskey Wheeler is an artist based in Richmond, California. Erin is represented by Jen Tough Gallery in Benicia, California and her paintings have been licensed and sold through Minted and West Elm. Her mixed media artwork begin with a layer of collage material that she draws, paints, and prints on top of to create paintings that are at once both graphic and organic. Currently, she divides her time between art making in her studio, running educational programs at the UC Botanical Garden, and teaching art classes at the Center for Community Arts in Walnut Creek. www.erinmwheeler.com
