The Perennial Mindset in the Era of Ageless with Gina Pell

Mon Mar 05, 2018 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

While the world argues about who, or which generation, is relevant ... Gina Pell, fashion and tech entrepreneur, Co-Founder of Splendora and The What, and Berkeley alum has coined the term Perennials to describe an ever-blooming group of people of ALL ages, stripes, and types who transcend stereotypes and make connections with each other and the world around them.

Gina Pell is an award winning Creative Director and tech entrepreneur. She is currently Content Chief of The What, a fast-growing email newsletter with five eclectic, curious things you should know about every week--from books to health, life, style, travel, and tech. In 2016, she coined the term Perennials to describe ever-blooming people of all ages who continue to push up against their growing edge, always relevant, and not defined by their generation. Pell also founded Splendora.com in 1999, a style and culture innovator in the online fashion space which was acquired by Joyus in 2011. Pell served as Chief Creative Officer of Joyus until 2013. Gina graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UC Berkeley before completing the Painting and Print Making program at Università Internazionale dell'Arte - Venezia in 1997.

Susan Hoffman is the Director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UC Berkeley. Before coming to UC Berkeley, Hoffman worked for the California State University—both at the state chancellor’s office and at San Francisco State—creating new interdisciplinary and international programs. She initiated the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at SFSU in 2002 and moved to UC Berkeley in 2007 to re-envision and build an entirely new Osher program. Previously, Hoffman served for a decade as the executive director of the California Confederation of the Arts, advocating for California artists, art educators, and arts organizations in Sacramento and Washington D.C., and developing cultural and educational policies. Her creative portfolio as a writer and film-maker includes directing short films and writing and publishing essays and poetry. Her faculty appointments have been in creative writing, theatre, and political philosophy.
