Arts + Design Mondays

The Paris Review: Women at Work
With Emily Nemens
Monday, February 4, 6:30pm

What does it mean to be a woman at work in the creative arts in 2019? The Paris Review's new editor, Emily Nemens, reflects on this question through the lens of the storied literary quarterly's Writers at Work interview series, the work of contemporary contributors, and her own creative practice as a writer and illustrator.

Arts + Design Mondays is a free weekly public lecture series curated by departments and programs across the UC Berkeley campus and is organized and sponsored by UC Berkeley’s Arts + Design Initiative.

Intern with the Bay Area Book Festival

The festival, which will take place May 4-5 in downtown Berkeley, is now accepting UC Berkeley interns to receive course credit through Rhetoric 197 enrollment for the Spring 2019 semester. The course will be P/NP, and the number of units you receive (1-3) will be determined by Professor Shannon Jackson, the course’s faculty sponsor.

Our internships are an excellent opportunity for students to learn what is required to produce a major literary event. You’ll choose one of five tracks: community engagement, volunteer management, festival production, literary curation, or marketing and communications. You can review the internship job descriptions for each track by clicking the links below:

How to Apply

To apply, you must be UC Berkeley student eligible to receive course credit through Rhetoric 197 for the Spring 2019 semester. All majors are welcome — you do not need to be a Rhetoric major.

Once you’ve chosen an internship track that interests you, submit the 2019 BABF Internship Application by midnight on January 2nd, 2019. As the selection process can be competitive and interviews are conducted on a rolling basis, we encourage early application submissions.
